It’s been mixed fortunes for Bandai Namco when it comes to their array of fighting genre IP’s and new releases alike. While the likes of Dragonball FighterZ and Soulcalibur VI have both been received extremely positively upon release, the latter title especially hasn’t managed to equate that reception to a significant amount of physical units sold, least not yet in its first week of availability. Fortunately, it looks like Tekken — another one of the developer/publisher’s more renowned IP’s — is having the opposite effect with the series’ most recent offering, 2017’s Tekken 7.

Game director Katsuhiro Harada took to Twitter over the weekend to announce that not only has Tekken 7 managed to surpass a total of three million copies sold since it launched in June of last year, but it reached that milestone before the game even celebrated its one year anniversary. Overall, across the series, that means that Tekken has now sold nearly fifty million copies since its console debut all the way back in 1995 for the original PlayStation. Tekken 7 is currently underway with its second year of post-launch content, with four new characters still to be revealed following the reveal of Anna, Lei and The Walking Dead’s own Negan added to the roster.
