Developer The Coalition revealed on Monday the full patch notes for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’s February update.

The February title update, which requires Xbox One users to have 5GB of free space, will be implemented at 9.00 a.m. PST next Tuesday, February 23, The Coalition confirmed.

According to the developer, feedback from the Gears community has been taken into consideration for the latest update, helping to “fuel some key improvements for our fans that [will] improve the overall experience of playing Ultimate Edition.”

As Gears of War community manager TC Octus noted earlier this month, The Coalition is making a significant change for those players still seeking to unlock the iconic Seriously achievement.

Prior to the upcoming update, dubbed ‘Title Update 2,’ the kills amassed across both the social and ranked multiplayer playlists would not count towards the achievement. Fortunately, this will change as of next week, with kills from both ranked and social matches going towards the achievement.

The Coalition, however, has said that kills from past social matches won’t count towards the achievement's post-patch, but those earned after the title update is in full effect will be added to the players’ progress.

The Ultimate Edition will have a week-long event to mark the update to the Seriously achievement, with The Coalition introducing 'Seriously TDM,' a modified version of Team Deathmatch.

Basically, Seriously TDM has the same rules as traditional TDM matches, but there’s one slight twist: the respawn count per round has been increased from fifteen to thirty for both teams.

The Coalition has confirmed that Seriously TDM will be accessible in the social playlist until 12.00 p.m. PST on February 29.

The Boomshot’s hit registration is an area that is also being addressed, with The Coalition believing that the power weapon has suffered from “inconsistent performance.”

“We’ve addressed a few of these items that should help the Boomshot perform more consistently, including a fix that should resolve the issue where the Boomshot fails to damage an enemy when fired at their feet,” The Coalition wrote on the Gears of War website.

Listed below are some of the other issues that will be fixed in the Ultimate Edition:

  • Addressed some matchmaking issues that caused long wait times.
  • Improvements to hit registration on downed enemies (sponging).
  • Small improvements to the left trigger issue.
  • Fixed hit detection when shooting an enemy in cover against the top pillars on Clocktower.
  • Removed POI (point of interest) on the right stick for Alternate Control Scheme.
  • Bug fixes and general improvements.

Aside from the bug fixes, weapon balance and other issues being attended to by The Coalition, the developer is set to make a couple of changes to the Ultimate Edition's online modes and playlists.

Execution, which received “some small but impactful improvements” earlier this month, will have its end-of-match XP reward boosted in order for it to be more balanced.

“Execution is a mode that can be highly rewarding, but also extremely punishing,” The Coalition explained. “To better reward players who take on the challenge of Execution, we've increased the XP gain in the mode significantly.”

Meanwhile, The Coalition will be adding Team Deathmatch to the ranked playlist, with Blitz being moved out of its competitive slot and becoming a social mode instead.

“We’ve been excited to see such a positive reaction to the new, faster Blitz mode,” The Coalition said. “We wanted to address community feedback about quitters impacting games -- as such, we’ve moved Blitz to social so join in progress backfilling can replace any teammates who quit.

“To ensure fans of respawn game types have an option to play a competitive matchmaking experience, we’ve added an additional TDM playlist to the game in the competitive category.”

For those Gears of War fans missing Warzone -- and there’s probably many out there -- The Coalition has heard the outcry from the community and will be returning the fan-favorite mode to the Ultimate Edition as a permanent playlist.

Despite Title Update 2 reintroducing Assassination to the Ultimate Edition, the developer has confirmed that it’s for a “limited time only,” with one of the reasons behind this decision being that the mode “is notably behind the other modes in terms of player population, which results in a less than ideal matchmaking experience.”

Last week, The Coalition released an eSports-themed weapon skin for the Ultimate Edition.

While the Ultimate Edition has been available on Xbox One since 2015, the title is still scheduled to launch on PC sometime in 2016. Learn more about the Ultimate Edition in Hardcore Gamer’s review.
