Moonman is a Terraria-like that's been quietly worked on for two years now, but with development reaching its final stages it's time for one last financial push to the end of the line.  The Kickstarter for this weird little free-scrolling survival/adventure launched today in coordination with its Steam Greenlight page, and while the mechanics look familiar there's a wonderful air of bizarreness infusing every scene.

Moonman is the story of an ever-smiling green man given a quest by an ancient mollusc (you can tell it's old, it has a cane) to find the pieces of the moon.  The pieces are scattered all over, because what kind of quest has a world you don't need to explore every nook and cranny of, and they can be hidden in strange corners, eaten by monsters, or even held by possessive NPCs.  The exploration and crafting of Terraria is a big part of the game, but with a bit more focus in the story department.  As per genre conventions the world is procedurally generated, but unlike most games of this sort it's designed as a single-player experience as you explore your own personal weird corner of the universe.  You can mine and build a base while tackling all the monsters you can find, but there's a quest with a definite ending waiting for your attention.  Moonman looks wonderfully odd, with its assortment of strange armors, bizarre monsters, and alien landscapes, and with any luck should land its smiling green face on Steam later this year.
