Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, today confirmed that the Untitled God of War Sequel and Gran Turismo 7 will also launch on PS4.

After much wondering and curiosity, Sony has finally confirmed that the Untitled God of War Sequel and Gran Turismo 7 are following the path of Horizon Forbidden West and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, not the path of Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Both titles will release simultaneously on PS5 and PS4.

Hermen Hulst confirmed this in an interview on the PlayStation Blog. The interview included mentions of Days Gone and Bend Studios, relations with other studios, PlayStation in Japan, and PlayStation titles on PC. He also confirmed that the Untitled God of War Sequel has been delayed to next year. The PS4 version confirmation for both upcoming titles also came during the interview:

"Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them."

The existence of PS4 versions of both titles is likely to cause some contention within the PlayStation community. On one hand, more players can enjoy both of these games. On the other, the PS5 loses another showcase title. It's a give-and-take, but players can at least rest assured that the games will likely still look and perform amazing on PS5. Last week's Horizon Forbidden West gameplay showcased beautiful environments, detailed character models and foliage, and other visual goodies running on PS5. Only time will tell if the Untitled God of War Sequel and Gran Turismo 7 can deliver.
