CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the current PS4 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won't be getting a PS4 Pro upgrade.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not only one of the best games of this-generation, but also one of the most demanding on hardware. The sheer scale and graphical detail of the world have caused problems for PS4 and Xbox One since launch, resulting in dropped frames. The enhanced power of the PS4 Pro could have helped smooth out some of those problems, but alas, CD Projekt Red has no intention of updating the game for PS4 Pro.

Speaking with Eurogamer, the developer confirmed that it has moved on to other projects. The reason being that it would be time and cost-consuming to spend resources on updating the game, and these resources can be put to better use on games like Cyberpunk 2077.

"Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent [standalone game], and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one [on console] would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro."

This likely means that CD Projekt Red won't be updating the game to take advantage of the upcoming Xbox Scorpio, out holiday 2017. While disappointing, it's understandable that CD Projekt Red would want to work on newer projects rather than revisit their 2015 game. While some older games like Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor are getting PS4 Pro updates, Sony is not requiring all past games to get PS4 Pro updates. It is entirely the developer's decision to support PS4 Pro with older titles.

PS4 Pro is out November 10. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
