2015’s Axiom Verge remains one of the best renditions of the Metroidvania formula since the genre’s surprise resurgence in the 2010’s. And while the game still holds up more than four years after its original release, Happ left it until right at the end of Nintendo’s latest Indie Presentation to announce that a sequel is on the way.

Naturally, details on the game’s expanding upon the rather intriguing story and narrative from previous are thin, other than the suggestion that the sequel will cover more of the setting’s origins — returning once more to the primary setting of the Breach. Apart from that and a quick splicing-together of gameplay, not much else…but one to look forward to nonetheless. Axiom Verge 2 is planned to release sometime in Fall 2020.
