Thousands of fans and business associates gathered in Kyoto to pay their respects to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, the Wall Street Journal reports.

According to Japanese Custom, Nintendo held two days of funeral services for Iwata who died of cancer on Saturday at the age of 55. More than 4,000 people were in attendance. While many were holding umbrellas due to the typhoon, others were carrying a Nintendo 3DS, which was first introduced by Iwata.

Taking over as President in the meantime are Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto. Takeda, who delivered a eulogy Friday said that he and Miyamoto would do everything they could to complete the work Iwata started. He also said that the seeds Iwata planted would grow into beautiful flowers “that will make people around the world smile.”
