THQ Nordic Acquires Homefront, Saints Row Publisher

THQ Nordic has successfully acquired Koch Media, the owners of video game publisher Deep Silver.

The Nordic game publisher has not shied away from making big moves within the industry. The company scooped up a number of THQ properties during the former’s publisher’s bankruptcy, and even managed to grab the name. Now, THQ Nordic has taken another step to increase their influence within the industry.

THQ Nordic has successfully purchased Koch Media, the parent company of Deep Silver for €121 million (About $150 million USD). The purchase gives THQ Nordic access to all of Deep Silver’s IPs, including Dead Island and Metro. In addition, the publisher acquires Deep Silver developers such as Volition (Saints Row, Agents of Mayhem) and Dambuster Studios (Homefront: The Revolution).

“Koch Media has a long history of profitability despite losses incurred from some less successful game releases. THQ Nordic is convinced that the development studios of Deep Silver as part of THQ Nordic will successfully deliver at least four ongoing AAA game projects including Metro Exodus as well as the next Volition Studio AAA release and the next Dambuster Studio AAA release, together with a number of other game development and publishing titles,” says Lars Wingefors, CEO THQ Nordic.

“I strongly believe that THQ Nordic is a great strategic fit with Koch Media. In addition to having long experience within games development and publishing, THQ Nordic has the skills, willingness and capital to deliver growth in the future,” says Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media.

The purchase is not expected to alter the release date of upcoming titles, including Metro: Exodus, which is currently shooting for a 2018 release. It is unknown when Volition and Dambuster Studios will announce their new AAA titles.
