During Namco Bandai’s recent autumn business meeting, some exciting news was revealed: after nearly half a decade, the Time Crisis series is rising from its grave and making a return to arcades with Time Crisis 5 next March. Well, at least in Japan. And it’s not just a pachinko game or iOS port, either. It’s a brand new installment.

The game will utilize the series’ familiar control scheme with an updated gun controller and two pedals (which will allow players to change the position they’re shooting from). Fans across the internet have been reacting with great surprise. Truly – a new light gun game in 2015?

This is great news for the Japanese gaming scene and, maybe — just maybe — it’ll trigger a revival of the genre. Here’s hoping it makes its way to home consoles as well.
