Creative Assembly has revealed their post-launch content plans for Total War: Warhammer, including a healthy batch of free content.

As with other recent Total War games, players will receive a batch of free content for Total War: Warhammer. In the months after release, players will begin to receive the content, which includes new unites, heroes, Legendary Lords, and a new playable race.

“With both Rome II and Attila we were able to release playable factions, new formats and even a free campaign expansion as a thanks to players for supporting Total War,” said Rob Bartholomew, Brand Director at CA. “The Warhammer Fantasy Battles World is gigantic, and we’re looking forward to exploring it over the forthcoming trilogy. But that incredible cast of characters and monsters also provides us the chance to make lots of interesting Free DLC to support our games over time.”

Then there's the paid DLC, which comes in three flavors. First we have Lord Packs that are themed on rivalries from Warhammer Lore. These packs come with two legendary lords, each with their own quest chains, campaign bonuses, and items. Also included are new lords, a unique unit, and an elite unit of renown.

Race Packs either add a new race, or add full unit rosters, heroes, lords, and playable Legendary Lords to an in-game non-playable race. Players can expect to get units, heroes, items, buildings, technology trees, and skill trees with each new race.

Finally we have the Campaign Packs. These DLC packs come with a new race and a new Challenge Campaign. Each pack will be themed on events from Warhammer lore.

Total War: Warhammer is set for release May 24 on PC, Mac OS X, and Linux. Be sure to check out our hands-on preview with the vampire faction.
