The Bumblebee director looks likely to take over directing duties for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Uncharted.

Uncharted is like playing an action film, but that isn't stopping Sony Pictures from pursuing a live-action adaptation. After former director Dan Trachtenberg exited last month, many wondered who would step up to take over. Turns out, Sony is turning to an up-and-coming director with critical success under his belt.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is deep in negotiations with Travis Knight. Knight previously directed Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, which both received critical acclaim at release. Before that, he worked as the lead animator on Coraline and ParaNorman.

Uncharted marks the first attempt by Sony Pictures and Sony PlayStation Productions to turn one of their hit gaming IP into a live-action film. The industry has a rather terrible track record when it comes to creating films based on video games. For every Angry Birds and Detective Pikachu, there's a whole swath of terrible adaptations (i.e. Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Bros., every Tomb Raider film, etc.).

Tom Holland is set to star as a young Nathan Drake in a story penned by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Rafe Judkins. The story takes place long before the main events portrayed in all Uncharted games, including Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy.

Uncharted enters production early next year. We'll let you know should Sony Pictures make any announcements regarding the film.
