The Science and Industry Museum today announced that it would be bringing two changes to the upcoming Power Up event.

The retro gaming festival, which is held in Manchester in the UK, will be extended by a two-week time frame, meaning that the event will now run across the whole summer holiday.

The Science and Industry Museum has said that the second major change coming to the festival will be that retro handheld consoles are featured for the first time, ranging from the Game Boy to the Atari Lynx to Sega’s Game Gear.

Power Up will have multiplayer competitions for attendees to participate in and also co-op titles to play, as well as visitors having the chance to play titles across multiple consoles, including Atari 2600, SNES, Dreamcast and PlayStation 4.

Tickets for the festival will be made available to the public on May 24, with early bird tickets also on offer this month and in June.

Power Up takes place at 1830 Warehouse and runs from July 20 until September 1.

“We know that Power Up is one of our most popular events of the year, and with sessions selling out for the past few years, we decided that a two-week run just wasn’t enough,” says Mark Cutmore, the head of commercial experiences at the Science Museum Group.

“So, I’m delighted to announce that Power Up will be in residence for the entire summer, giving more opportunities to play than ever before.”

The prices for tickets can be found on the Science and Industry Museum website.
