Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare found itself back in the top spot after losing to Grand Theft Auto V last week. Strangely, 67% of Advanced Warfare's sales were on PS3 and Xbox 360 (rather than PS4 and Xbox One). The opposite was true during launch week.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare wasn't the only game to see a turnaround. Assassin's Creed: Unity, which has been plagued by technical problems, saw a nice bump in sales, which are attributed to strong marketing on Microsoft's behalf. DriveClub, another trainwreck at launch, saw a 999% jump in sales thanks to Sony's heavy marketing in the UK.
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby may have debuted in lower spots than last year's Pokemon X and Y, but Ruby and Sapphire managed to outsell last year's games by 17%. When combined, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby are the highest-selling Pokemon games in UK history. Pokemon Black and White were the previous record holders.
Sadly, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and LittleBigPlanet 3 did not fare as well in their debuts. Nintendo's big holiday 2014 game, when combined with the 3DS version, only made it to the thirteenth spot. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U beats out Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze (#9) as the worst Wii U exclusive debut of 2014. That isn't to say LittleBigPlanet 3 fared any better. Sony's platformer only managed to make it to the eighteenth spot, a franchise low.
