Sony has revealed that the live-action adaptation of Uncharted will hit theaters on June 10, 2016, serving as a replacement for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is now scheduled for 2018.
Deadline reports that no one has been cast as Nathan Drake, however, Sony apparently wants to bring Mark Wahlberg back on board. Originally cast as Nathan Drake, anger from fans drove Wahlberg away from the project. Seth Gordon of Horrible Bosses fame will direct with a screenplay written by David Guggenheim.
Uncharted is not the first game Sony is adapting into a film as Blockade Entertainment is working on Heavenly Sword, and Rainmaker Entertainment on both Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank. The difference with Uncharted is that it will be a live-action film. Sony has been trying to get a God of War film off the ground as well, but they’ve yet to have any luck.
Nathan Drake will return to the world of gaming in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2015.
