Shantae has undergone quite the journey over the past seventeen years and counting with WayForward. It started off with a Game Boy Color title that was initially a flop. But over time, it ascended into becoming a cult hit. Then with that cult strength, WayForward independently created two follow-ups for the DS and 3DS. By now, our half-genie heroine had enough clout to make the Kickstarter campaign for their fourth game a raging success. Now a commercial and critical darling, Shantae is now a platforming superstar. So much so that when WayForward announced a fifth Shantae game just now, damn straight everyone dropped what they were doing and paid attention.

The announcement came in the form of a tweet from WayForward, which you can see below. Simply going by the name of Shantae 5 for now, details beyond what the tweet includes are still a bit scarce. The notable addition is that aside from hitting all major gaming platforms, Shantae 5 will also be headed to the new Apple Arcade subscription service/gaming platform. Needless to say, that's a big get for the service. Shantae 5 is due out later this year, and naturally, stay tuned to Hardcore Gamer for for details on the game as they develop.
