Xbox One October Update Begins to Roll Out

System updates can either be extremely exciting or insanely mundane. The Xbox One’s October Update falls somewhere in the middle of these two extremes, as some interesting Snap features and an upgrade to the Achievements application should make the Xbox One much simpler to use. Microsoft released a video starring Major Nelson that details the features of the newest update, which begun to roll out to users today:

By double-tapping the Xbox button, players will be able to access a menu that enables them to open, close, or switch between snapped applications. This simple addition should make it much simpler for Kinect-free Xbox One owners to navigate one of their system’s most interesting features. In addition, the Friends and Messaging applications have been designed to work perfecly with the Snap feature, thus allowing players to never leave their current game to interact with their peers. The Achievements application has become more social, as players can caption their shared achievements as well as see which friends have attained a given achievement.

In addition to better snapping, Xbox One owners will see a number of sought-after TV features and and improvements to the SmartGlass experience, among other small tweaks.
