Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Serves Up Release Date Alongside Tonics

While opinions on the original Yooka-Laylee are bit mixed, with some believing that it recreates everything good and bad about “collect-a-thon” 3D platformers, Playtonic’s follow-up game Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair still seems to be coming along fine, as we can attest to. And in just a month, we’ll see if this different take on the franchise pays off, as an October release date has now been announced for the game. The announcement comes courtesy of a new trailer, which highlights the return of tonics to the game.

Much like in the original Yooka-Laylee, tonics are used as collectible modifiers that can change the way you play, either by altering Yooka and Laylee’s skills or just adding something purely cosmetic. And Playtonic went all in this time, with sixty-two tonics to discover (in comparison, the first game only had sixteen). As seen in the new clip, this includes slow motion, sonic attacks, big head mode, Game Boy-style visuals, and many more. Not to mention four exclusive tonics as a pre-order bonus, including the beloved tonic that allows for 64-bit versions of our heroes, and one that turns every level into a disco. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is set to arrive for all major platforms on October 8 courtesy of Team17, and should hopefully make for a solid platformer.
