Eiji Aonuma is perhaps best known for his work alongside Shigeru Miyamoto on the Legend of Zelda series. Thus, when he appeared at E3 this year, we knew we were in for some good news with regards to the beloved franchise. At that expo, a brief trailer for the forthcoming Zelda was shown off, which Aonuma stated would be an open-world title, essentially breaking the Internet. Since then, many gamers have gone on to liken the game to Skyrim. Eiji, however, doesn't seem all that interested in making such a comparison. When speaking to Edge magazine this month, he reported the following:

Since we’re talking about open worlds, let’s state upfront that we don’t plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years.

What that actually means is unclear at this time; though it could be safe to assume that our pre-conceived ideas of what Zelda U will be may not be entirely accurate. Only time will tell, but it would appear that holding off judgment, until we see concrete footage of the game's approach to the open-world genre, is the best policy.
