The Stanley Parable is a game about gaming. You walk around, look at things, get narrated at, and if you're in a particularly interactive area you even get to push a button. It's the choices you make along the way that turn the game from being some kind of guided tour into an actual statement on the illusion of freedom in games, as you both work with and against the narrator to explore the limits the The Stanley Parable's closed world. We talk a lot about freedom in gaming but The Stanley Parable does a fantastic job pointing out the restrictions we choose to ignore while somehow being clever, funny, charming, and never once boring. |
