There’s always plenty to talk about with Destiny 2, and while that’s always worth a fireside chat, the main focus for Destiny 2 this E3 is the new PvEvP mode Gambit. Gambit is what Destiny 2 defines as a well-balanced blend of crushing alien face while still getting a taste of some PvP action in the mix. Having a new mode come to Destiny 2 is just one of the many things Bungie hopes will help improve the longevity of what is known as a lifetime game. Fans of Destiny having been itching for new content and with Destiny 2: Forsaken’s announcement so too came Gambit, now at E3 players have their first chance to get hands on with what is already being talked about as a good time.

What is Gambit? Gambit, much like PvP consist of a two team 4v4 match up but players are facing waves of enemies instead of each other, collecting the motes that drop off enemies, depositing those motes in a bank and summoning a ‘Primeval’ to win glory for the team. The catch? Based on how the other team is doing with their waves and depositing of motes they can send over what is known as a ‘Blocker’ this is a big bad that will require the other team to drop what they’re doing to take down the Blocker, so they can start depositing motes again. If players are really kicking butt, then one player from each team will get a chance to invade the other team as a Blocker while being boosted with extra health and power. It adds just the right amount of PvP chaos without overburdening the other team with someone who crushes at PvP. A player Blocker only has thirty seconds of invasion time with the other team, so making every second count is worth it.

Introducing Gambit is proving to be a good time and players are already getting excited about this new mode. Many complaints from a big portion of the more casual Destiny 2 community are that PvP is not something to be touched at all, reserved more for the best of Destiny 2. Bungie has heard players and by delivering Gambit hopes to give them something they will find equally as satisfying from a PvE and PvP perspective. Players from both the PvE side and PvP side can come together for common fun, which is what Bungie wants more than anything for Destiny 2.

Of course, Destiny 2 isn’t all just Gambit at E3, most likely if a fan Destiny 2 then a certain trailer has made the rounds. It’s true, Cayde-6 is indeed dead. Bungie is looking to tell a darker story centered around a lawless frontier. With Prince Uldren returning to the stage, not having been seen since the battle from Destiny: The Taken King. What does this portent mean for the future of the Vanguard and its Guardians? Find out on September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
