With Madden NFL 18, EA Tiburon went a different direction with adding a narrative to the game. Starring high school quarterback Devin Wade and his friend Colt Cruise, you journeyed through high school and college while taking part on a reality television show to make it to the NFL. The story was surprisingly good as it did not feel like something was forced and tacked on. EA announced that Longshot 2: Homecoming will be in Madden NFL 19 and listened to community feedback to address some improvements and desires that the mode needs this year.

According to EA, the biggest gripe was the lack of actual gameplay last year. While fans could reminisce in playing a high school and college experience since the NCAA Football series ended, the story went further with solid voice acting and a solid story. Fans of the mode wanted more football. EA is addressing that with promising that the mode will feature four times the gameplay. EA also mentioned at its recent EA Sports Summer Showcase that there will be more interactions for Devin Wade with actual NFL stars. He will have a portion of his story with New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady.

The sequel will start off with Devin Wade in training camp for the Dallas Cowboys. He isn't being promised a starting position and needs to prove that he is worthy of being in the league. His friend, Colt Cruise, goes back to his roots as he seeks a second chance at making it big. Cruise starts to let life pull him away from football as his chances are dwindling. The groundwork for the story was defined last year as Wade went through the ranks, but time will tell how this story will play out when it needs to be expanded upon. There will also be some actors you recognize in the story this year including Rob Schneider as GM of the Dallas Cowboys.

If you fall in love with the stars of the story, players can play as Devin Wade and Colt Cruise in other modes including Franchise Mode and Madden Ultimate Team. With the inclusion of Real Player Motion with animations this year, hopefully improvements will be seen with these character's emotions to help improve the acting. EA Tiburon is doubling its tasks with this story as it's basically two different character stories that have a history that will eventually tie together at some point. On top of this, the backstory has already been created and the team is trying to address feedback from the original. The producers mentioned that Madden players either loved it or hated it, but it garnered enough of an audience to bring it back. Madden NFL 19 will launch on August 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
