MyCareer is one of the top create-a-player modes there are in sports games. NBA 2K20 is overhauling how players will create their players with the MyPlayer Builder, but that isn't the only thing being added to the game. The Motion Engine is getting some enhancements, so expect amazing animations and ball mechanics. Players will also get to experience the WNBA and new All-Decade teams. To top this all off, MyCareer will get a new cinematic narrative that will feel like a true motion picture. We were invited out to the Community Day to get some hands-on with NBA 2K20 and experience this all first hand.

Executive produced by both LeBron James and Springhill Entertainment, the cinematic narrative for MyCareer will be deep. Sheldon Candis will direct the most visually-stunning cinematic experience to date. The storylines will hit on current social issues as you live the life of a NBA prospect on a quest to be the best on and off the court. Players can expect a star-studded cast that includes Idris Elba and Rosario Dawson along with past and present NBA players to give an immersive experience in between games.

What will drive MyCareer is the new MyPlayer Builder. Gone are the days of grinding for long periods of time and not knowing the maximum potential of the created player. MyPlayer Builder allows for customization or preset builds based on the type of player you want to create with. It's quick and easy to use and addictive in our time of creating players. You choose what type of skills you would like and it's divided into four categories: Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking and Defensive/Rebounding. You will select based on pre-determined graphs what you want your player to be great at while sacrificing other aspects. From there, you will choose a physical profile. Whether you prefer speed, acceleration, strength or a vertical, you can aim for a combination or complete focus on one aspect.

From here, you will set your individual potential for each attribute under the four categories. You can either balance this out or max out in certain areas. Whatever is chosen, you will accrue badges that can be set for individual accolades for that player. There are fifty new badges this year such as Ankle Breaker or Flashy Passer. Setting badges will allow for four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold or HOF. Players will select an Archetype once this is all set and can then see how well their player will play at any overall rating and jump into five-on-five practice. This allows players to test immediately if they want this type of player as this was the most requested community feedback according to developers. The brightest spot of MyPlayer is that you're done in 5-10 minutes, so it'll be easy to crank out players and test them. This can gear up for a great 5-on-5 online with friends. Players can download the NBA 2K20 demo now to try this out.

On the court, there will be some noticeable upgrades. Players can see shot prediction percentages from both their own team and their opponents. Pro Stick allows for even better moves in one-on-one situations as it seems players with acceleration will be the best to drive the ball into the paint. Collisions will also get a boost thanks to the Motion Engine as off-ball and interaction mechanics will allow for seamless pick-and-rolls. Advanced players will clearly have an edge as custom dribble sequences can be built on the fly.

The WNBA joins the franchise for the first time and this won't be a simple plug-and-play of teams and players. The experience will be different and that starts with the motion capture from the players themselves. This results in the feel of a WNBA game having a noticeable bump in pace, and couple this with a different commentary team, it becomes a separate experience. Players can also play a full WNBA season.

NBA 2K20 will add to its legendary teams with ten new ones. These will include the 2009-10 Portland Trail Blazers, 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers, 2013-14 San Antonio Spurs and 2002-03 Phoenix Suns. The biggest addition comes in the form of the All-Decade teams. There will be teams to represent each decade going back to the 1960s. These will be full roster teams to see which decade was the best of all time. There will be 100 legendary teams in total.

NBA 2K20 may have the most to offer than any previous iteration with the additional play options. NBA 2K20 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC on September 6. The demo releases today so players can jump on their MyPlayer builds and these players will carry over to the full game at release.
