Announced earlier this year, Rose and the Old Castle of Twilight (or Roze to Tasogare no Kojou, to go by its Japanese title) was a puzzle-platformer for the Vita from Nippon Ichi Software that came as a bit of a follow-up to their similar puzzle-platformer from last year, htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary. And while htoL#NiQ wound up being a bit underwhelming, Rose has seemingly been getting some pretty good reviews ever since its original release in Japan last April, so can it win over a Western audience as well? Well, thanks to the announcement of an upcoming North American release in the Spring of 2017 - under the new name of A Rose in the Twilight - we'll get to see the answer to that question first-hand next year.

As seen in the announcement trailer below, A Rose in the Twilight is a 2D puzzle-platformer where you play as the titular Rose, a young girl who wakes up in a creepy, colorless castle that is devoid of time and where she now possesses the Curse of Thorns, which allows her to either drain blood or give it to various objects, freezing them in or freeing them from a lack of time in order to get past various obstacles. Assisted by a mysterious golem known only as the giant, Rose has to make her way through the ruins while uncovering memories of what exactly happened to the people in this world, which just so happens to involve recalling each victim's death. Like Nippon Ichi Software's previous game, Yomawari: Night Alone, A Rose in the Twilight will be released for both the PS Vita and Steam (though no word if it will be a simultaneous release yet), with the Vita version also receiving a physical release. It certainly does look like a striking game indeed, so here's hoping that Rose and the giant can deliver some solid and challenging platforming when we see them next year.
