Last year, we saw the classic 16-bit duo of Toejam and Earl finally set to make their comeback with a sequel thanks to the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign. Since then, though, we haven't heard much in the way of any major updates, although back in June the developers announced in an update to backers that they have a new funding partner, but wouldn't mention who it was due to them wanting to have a big reveal later. Well, it looks like today was the day of the reveal, as that partner is none other than Adult Swim Games, who debuted a new gamplay-filled teaser for Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove that you can view below.

Set to combine the best features of the original two Sega Genesis games, Back in the Groove is a roguelike where the goal is to help the titular duo and their friends escape from a crash landing on Earth by collecting the missing pieces of their ship, in an old-school adventure for all. And now, thanks to the help of Adult Swim Games, the game will be coming to consoles as well as PC, helping to reach the stretch goals that the original campaign initially did not reach (although it is yet to to be mentioned for which specific consoles this will be for).

And although it has not yet officially been announced, Back in the Groove will apparently be playable at PAX West next month, if Pinny Arcade's mystery silhouette is any indication, so stay tuned to Hardcore Gamer for any previews. For now, Toejam and Earl: back in the Groove is set for a 2017 release, so you have until then to build up an appropriate funk collection to set the mood.
