Fans of Destiny be prepared, the first huge update since The Taken King has finally arrived.

Destiny has been starved for content since The Taken King launched back in September 2015. Since then, the game has seen incremental updates, but there's hasn't been anything substantial. That all ends today when the April Update goes live and adds in lots of new content.

First off, the Light Level has been increased from 320 to 335, giving players a new goal to reach for. Bungie has also made it easier to get to 335 by giving players different options to acquire the necessary gear. Playing the Crucible, Court of Oryx, Trials of Osiris, and the updated Prison of Elders are all tangible ways to get the right gear. New story missions, quests, and bounties have been added in to give players more content to complete. The most important is the Prison of Elders, which has been updated to include new challenges, bosses, and rewards.

Finally, Bungie is adding in new ways to customize your Guardian. First off, there are a ton of new armor sets, including Taken-inspired pieces of armor. Collect a full set of Taken armor and you'll automatically unlock the Taken emote. Chroma, a new addition to the game, allows players to add lights to Chroma compatible weapons and armor. You will literally glow, reflecting the light within you.

The April update is available to download for free today. The only requirement is that you must own Destiny: The Taken King. This will likely be the only major update between now and this holiday season where Bungie will launch another large expansion pack. It will likely be revealed at E3 2016 this June. A full-fledged sequel won't launch until 2017.
