When all the world is a magical plaything it helps if not a single pixel is immune.  Trees should burn, glass and ice shatter, gas combust, lava harden and rock melt, and everything is a tool for the wizard who knows how to use it.  Noita is a 2D action-platformer that takes its inspiration from the old World of Sand java game and its many derivatives, which means that everything interacts with everything else and it's all destructible in some way.  Whether this is used just to entertain yourself by dismembering the level or, more sensibly, give yourself a tactical advantage by taking advantage of each element's properties is up to you.  The trick will be to learn how everything works together on the fly, building spells to take advantage of the properties of the randomized levels' materials while trying not to die, because you only get the one life.  Noita is a 2D falling-sand side-view magical action roguelike, which probably won't spawn an entire genre but certainly sounds like it ought to, being created by a trio of Finnish programmers who have been responsible for Crayon Physics Deluxe, The Swapper, and a number of smaller games.  It will be released when it's done, but in the meantime there's a nice trailer to show off a nice variety of ways in which you can accidentally immolate, crush, dissolve, or otherwise eviscerate your poor wizard.
