The Dragon Quest turn-based JRPG series has a consistent and strong fan following, especially in Japan. As such, the series has stayed strong throughout its long run. Dragon Quest VIII was no different back on the PlayStation 2, and now that it's coming to the Nintendo 3DS, it looks to be getting even better.

The 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII will be largely the same as the PS2 original, but it will feature additional episodes that will flesh out the main villain Dhoulmagus' back-story as well as the main character's childhood. Two new party members will also join the quest in the 3DS version: Gerda, a thief, and Morrie, a monster summoner. The 3DS version will be fully voiced and the game's soundtrack will be redone by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. It also looks like there will be a photo mode of sorts which will allow players to pose their characters, add some flair, snap a photo, and send it to other people. Unfortunately, the game will not support the 3DS's stereoscopic 3D feature and will instead focus on maintaining a good level of quality and performance.
