Square Enix just revealed the release date for Dragon Quest XI on their stream tonight. The eleventh installment in the three decade long series will be coming to Japan on July 29, 2017. Many have speculated a Nintendo Switch release, but Dragon Quest XI will remain for just PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS. That will make for a major title this summer that's very appreciated in an industry that generally releases its big titles during the fall. This confirmed date is only in reference to Japan. As of right now the American release date is not known or even confirmed for release. Dragon Quest XI will vary visually from each platform. The PlayStation 4 version will be in full 3D and an in HD while the handheld version has a choice of a 3D version with a more chibi-like graphical style or a classic 16-bit graphical style.

It's been five years since the last mainline Dragon Quest game and X only released in Japan. A North American release date has yet to be announced.
