While there was some speculation that the next installment into the NieR / Drakengard franchise would be coming out this year, Square Enix has dispelled that anticipation. In celebration of E3 2016 starting today, the Japanese publisher has not only announced a tentative release window for the upcoming action game, but also released a new gameplay trailer in the process.

Developed by PlatinumGames, best known for their work on highly regarded action games such as Bayonetta, Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising, NieR Automata looks to bring what the studio is well known for, while featuring a rather ambiguous story.

The trailer itself is well done, with cuts of slower moments, combat and at least one opening to a boss. It doesn't feature any dialogue, unless you count robotic screaming, but they're able to convey what you can expect relatively well for when NieR Automata hits in early 2017, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
