Well it finally happened. After nearly two years of silence following its initial announcement back at E3 2019 -- with little more than a cryptic teaser trailer minus any manner of gameplay -- Elden Ring has surfaced once more. Developer FromSoftware's latest, ambitious title, made in collaboration with George R. R. Martin, was left to fill the "one more thing" role during this year's opening Summer Games Fest showing and for the most part it looks to have filled it.

The usual FromSoftware action RPG trappings are all here: dark fantasy setting, ruinous environments to explore, monstrous beasties and towering bosses alike to challenge. Complete with the mandatory requirement for repeating "elden ring" at least a handful of times. But it looks like From are looking to expand their canvas with what appears to be a more open design to the game's world, as well as the ability to ride a horse both for travel and for combat. If people weren't excited for this game already, this small piece of gameplay surely will make them now. And better still: we have a release date for the game on top. Elden Ring will release across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One & PC on January 21. For those who purchase the game on either PS4 or Xbox One, you can get the game's current-gen versions for free as an upgrade.
