The Park, a first-person psychological horror title, is scheduled for release on October 27, 2015, developer Funcom announced today.

Funcom, who is known for creating MMORPG titles like The Secret World and Age of Conan: Unchained, confirmed that The Park will be making its way to PC in time for Halloween.

Pre-orders for The Park have now been opened on several online-based retailers, including SteamGamersGate and Green Man Gaming.

The Park will be retailing at a “promotional price” of $9.99 (£7.69), Funcom confirmed in a press release.

Drawing inspiration from titles such as Gone Home, Dear Esther and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, The Park’s story centers on main protagonist Lorraine, a mother who begins to search for her missing son in a “mysterious and creepy theme park.”

“When night falls and the lights go out, you must face an emotional and terrifying journey through an amusement park where a dark and sinister secret is just waiting to be uncovered,” reads the synopsis for The Park.

Funcom has said that The Park is set in the same universe as The Secret World, meaning that those who purchase the developer’s horror title will be able to unlock items that will carry over to the MMORPG, such as a Chipmunk Killer costume that featured in a batch of screenshots released last month.

"The Park is all about the psychological aspect of horror and the slow building of tension and unease through storytelling and exploration," says Joel Bylos, creative director on The Park.

"The story is told over one to two hours of gameplay and we have tried to tell a tale that is both terrifying and deeply emotional at the same time, offering players a different Halloween experience than they might expect going in."
