As you may or may not know, the much-beloved (if unseen as of late) Metroid series marks its 30th anniversary this August and while we have zero clue what, if anything, Nintendo have planned to commemorate one of gaming's great series', it appears the online community have certainly not wasted  any time in getting the festivities under way in 2016, one way or another.

Led by a user under the moniker SMILEuser96, a group of Metroid fans - via the site Metroid Construction - have released a ROM hack that rotates the 1994 SNES classic, Super Metroid, on its side. As you can see from the accompanying video below, the game is significantly tougher than the original title and will find players continually making use of the wall-kick ability along with some well-timed bomb placement to reach the higher spots on the newly-formed Zebes. Fans can download the hack for free via the website.
