Need for Speed Announced, Will be a Full Reboot

Developer Ghost Games and Publisher EA have unveiled Need for Speed. The latest entry in the franchise will be fully revealed at E3 2015, but EA have kindly released a short teaser showcasing in-engine footage.

Need for Speed is a full reboot of the franchise focusing on what made the franchise so popular in the first place. There will be a deep car customization system, authentic urban car culture, a nighttime open world, and an immersive narrative. The game is being developed on the same version of Frostbite as Star Wars: Battlefront, so Need for Speed should look really good.

“Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Marcus Nilsson, executive producer at Ghost Games in the press release. “Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

Need for Speed is set to release holiday 2015 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. EA’s E3 2015 press conference will take place June 15 at 1pm PT/4pm ET where the publisher will show off Star Wars: Battlefront, its latest slate of sports games, and Mass Effect 4 in addition to Need for Speed.
