Finally someone is taking up the torch that Kronos Digital left behind. It has been over fifteen years since we've last seen Hana and Rain, but they look better than ever. If you're not familiar with the Fear Effect franchise, it was a set of two games released in the early 2000s that put you in the shoes of multiple characters, but most notably Hana Tsu-Vachel.

It featured somewhat clumsy, tank-like controls, similar to that of Resident Evil, but was more about fast paced action. One of its biggest drawing points was all the death animations, featuring rather gruesome cinematics of the main characters if they were unable to figure out a puzzle in time. Kronos Digital announced Fear Effect Inferno for the PlayStation 2 a little after the second game was announced, but unfortunately it was quickly cancelled after the developer shut their doors.

It was just last year that Square Enix opened up their unused franchises for pitches, and French developer Sushee came up with a great idea. Sushee pitched a game that's heavily influenced by Hairbrained  Schemes' latest Shadowrun releases, taking a strategy isometric approach to combat. Square Enix liked this idea so much they gave it the greenlight,  but only if they could come up with the funds. That is why the next Fear Effect, titled Fear Effect Sedna, will be coming to Kickstarter in hopes of raising enough money to make it.

Talking with Eurogamer, Sushee reassured players that they won't be blatantly using the protagonists' sexuality for no good reason as it was done in the past two games:

"We want to do things smart," Anseaume said. "We don't want to show sexuality for nothing. We want to work on the relationship between the characters. Maybe back in the 90s it was a selling element. We want to make it part of the story and not just a selling element. John is important for that. He's the writer of the best part of Fear Effect, the first episode where Hana was strong, and not as sexualised as she was in the second game.

We for one are very excited to step into the shoes of Hana Tsu-Vachel once more, and Sushee is only asking for €100,000 ($113,780 US).
