Most remakes nowadays are always a hit or miss that can span from positive reception for games like Ratchet and Clank to relatively negative comments for games like Thief.  Because of this, consumers like us area always on edge about previously used IPs and how the developer will continue the legacy of the previous game, (or completely destroy it).  Heavy Spectrum Entertainment Labs has remade Reflection Interactive's 1989 game Shadow of the Beast and the newly released gameplay looks really promising.  The game, like the original, is a 3D, sidescrolling platformer that follows the story of Aarbron, who was kidnapped and turned into a monstrous warrior-servant.  The combat is a brutal; introducing combos that can be used to strike down enemies and do things like remove the shields from shield wielding foes, actions that couldn't be done before.

You can purchase new upgrades and special moves through the newly developed Wisdom of Shadows.  These items can only be accessed through finding secret in-game items that are available in each level.  Then items can then be purchased using mana that you obtain during battles so fight well!  There are plenty of ways to go about attacking your enemies, from special attacks to dodge rolls but it is always important to use that block button if you really want to stay alive.  Should you attack waves of enemies, or just one big enemy, unscathed, your score will increase massively and will only continue to increase should you keep a large combo multiplier.

You can pre-order the game now through the Playstation Store for a release date of May 17.  Check out the gameplay footage below for more details:
