The upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has received a new video in developer The Coalition’s Remastering Gears of War series, with the latest instalment focusing on the visuals in the title.

The video, which can be viewed below, has the development team explaining how the remastered version of the original Gears of War title has had its graphics updated and polished, which is evident in the improvements made to the architecture, character models and miscellaneous objects scattered throughout different locations.

Side-by-side comparison screenshots from several segments in the campaign and online multiplayer maps are featured in the video, which highlights, for example, how the lighting stands out in the opening story mission due to the addition of more fog and the subtle aesthetic changes applied to maps like War Machine.

Aryan Hanbeck, associate art director at The Coalition, insists there were tough challenges when it came to reimagining and tweaking any portion of the multiplayer maps, as the slightest change could have a “knock-on effect” and result in players being vulnerable in areas that weren’t as exposed as they were in the original maps.

The Coalition has used the Remastering Gears of War series to reveal a behind-the-scenes look at how they are revamping Gears of War for Xbox One, with previous videos centring on the Locust Horde and the title’s gameplay.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which will be running at 1080p and 60fps, will be retailing at $39.99, includes beta access for Gears of War 4 and comes bundled with the four Gears of War titles that were released on Xbox 360.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is scheduled for release on August 25 for Xbox One. While a release date has not been announced, the Ultimate Edition will also be heading to PC, The Coalition confirmed earlier this year.
