NIS America have today unveiled a new JRPG project from developer Lancarse -- the same studio whom in the past are perhaps best known as co-developers of the likes of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth. Titled Monark, the game is set in a school that has become engulfed by a strange and deadly mist. The only way to counter it of course being to defeat the arbitrarily-numbered series of foes the game describes as the "Pactbearers", whilst accruing a growing number of monsters dubbed "Fiends" to help you in battle.

A project that will very much draw comparisons to much of Atlus' own beloved series of turn-based JRPG's. From the school setting, to the assembling of supernatural entities. Though the one thing the game will certainly try to use to help differentiate it, is the inclusion of a Madness system that allows you to use more powerful attacks during combat. The announcement trailer doesn't go into much detail as to what the potential cost to this may be, though given there's a social aspect -- with multiple endings as a result -- as well as balancing one's stats, one would hope these mechanics are intertwined in some fashion. Monark releases this coming October in Japan and is slated to release in the West in Early 2022 across PS5, PS4, Switch & PC.
