The Last Guardian may be the biggest game coming out this Fall that's spent the most time building up anticipation over its lengthy development time, but let's not have it overshadow a rather big indie game coming out during the same timeframe as well: Owlboy, D-Pad Studio's ambitious action-adventure game meant to showcase just how stunning 2D games and pixel artwork can be. Having been in development for eight years ever since creator Simon Andersen began work on it, it's finally set to come out this Fall for PC, and finally has an official announcement trailer that you can check out below.

Following the journey of the young mute owlboy Otis as he struggles with maturity, sky pirates, and the unexpected, Owlboy is a love letter to old-school video games, as seen in the trailer. We get to see a variety of different areas, characters, challenges, and gameplay (including a heavy emphasis on flight, of course), all displayed with some truly breathtaking visuals. Owlboy is set to come out this Fall as mentioned for PC, but a more concrete release date will be announced at PAX West on September 5th, where the game will also be playable as part of the PAX Rising exhibit. It sure looks like a gorgeous indie bombshell indeed, so here's hoping this eight-year story has a happy conclusion.
