One of crowdfunding's biggest success stories, the original Pillars of Eternity raised nearly four million dollars on Kickstarter back in 2012, later launching in 2015 to become one of the year's most acclaimed RPGs. And now, Obsidian Entertainment is ready to create a new campaign to raise funds for the game's sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Taking a cue from fellow RPG sequel Wasteland 3, though, Obsidian is now using Fig as their fundraising platform this time around, allowing certain backers to invest in what is sure to be a hit follow-up.

Taking place in the Deadfire Archipelago, Pillars of Eternity II sees the return of the stone titan Eothas, who you now need to hunt down in order to save your soul. Among other things, the sequel will see enhanced spells and abilities, new weather effects, and enhanced reactivity based on your actions in the previous game. You can learn more in the initial launch trailer/pitch video seen below, which goes into greater detail and provides some early footage of the game, and then you can check out the Fig campaign page and see about contributing. In just a few hours, the game has already made it to twenty-five percent of its $1.1 million goal (as of the time of writing), so the odds are indeed pretty good that we'll see Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire become a reality in the near future.
