Release Date Confirmed for Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Cold Darkness Awakened DLC

Publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics announced on Tuesday an official release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider’s third and final DLC expansion.

Called ‘Cold Darkness Awakened,’ the DLC is priced at $9.99 and will be heading to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on March 29.

“Cold Darkness Awakened takes Lara to a decommissioned Cold War research base, which holds a dark past that has been unleashed into the Siberian wilderness,” the description for the DLC reads.

“As a deadly affliction spreads, Trinity soldiers transform into bloodthirsty killers who thrive on carnage. Lara must rely on her wits, physical agility, and crafting abilities to overcome this new enemy and shut down the decommissioned base.”

A new trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider, dubbed ‘Complete Experience,’ has been released, which includes a sneak peek at the Cold Darkness Awakened DLC.

The Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass, which Square Enix announced in October 2015, is retailing at $29.99 and includes extra outfits, weapons and access to the title’s three main expansion packs: Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, Endurance Mode and Cold Darkness Awakened.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, the direct sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider, was released first on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in November 2015 as part of an exclusive deal between Square Enix and Microsoft.

The title was then released on PC in January 2016, with a PlayStation 4 launch date confirmed for sometime in Q4 of 2016.

Hardcore Gamer’s review for Rise of the Tomb Raider praised Crystal Dynamics’ effort in creating “a perfect balance of cinematic action and strong adventure elements,” with protagonist Lara Croft “slowly becoming the leading lady we’ve come to expect, but with far more depth than ever before.”
