The long absent Apogee Entertainment is finally back on the gaming scene, and it’s already got a project in the cooker. The first project to be published by the newly relaunched publisher will be “Residual:” a new survival platformer coming to all major systems. Developed by Orange Pixel, Residual is meant to offer gamers a new kind of survival experience. Supposedly every world will be procedurally generated, and the conditions present on these worlds will reflect things like their distance from their sun. Players will also have to deal with the terrain, flora, fauna and environmental difficulties such conditions will spawn.
Residual also has no traditional combat system. Instead, players will have to rely on their wits, platforming skills, puzzle-solving abilities and perhaps even a little luck in order to survive strange planets. There are also clues to an ancient civilization to discover and an occasionally helpful “Personal Disaster Bot” to keep players company on their travels.
Residual launches sometime in 2021 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
