Titanfall 2 is getting a single player campaign, and Respawn Entertainment has dished on what it took to make that a reality.

Respawn Entertainment has some great DNA. After all, these are the same people that created Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. That's one of the reasons Titanfall's lack of a single player campaign was so disappointing. Going into Titanfall 2, Respawn knew they wanted to make a single player campaign, but the question was how could they design something fun and exciting that incorporated Titanfall's unique mechanics. In the end, they wanted to try something knew.

The development process began with designers creating what Respawn calls 'action blocks.' There prototypes focused on showcasing a particular gameplay elements or theme from the Titanfall universe. The only direction was that the action blocks had to revolve around the relationship between a Pilot and their Titan. After creating over 100 action blocks, the team narrowed and refined them into the campaign we'll be playing in October.

Titanfall 2's campaign focuses on the story and relationship between Titan BT-7274 and Rifleman 3rd Class Jack Cooper. BT is the first Titan built by the Militia, a resistance group fighting the oppressive IMC. BT is capable of using any Titan loadout and embodies the Militia's culture of teamwork, craftsmanship, and looking out for one another. Jack is a grunt in the Militia with aspirations of becoming a Pilot. Captain Tai Lastimosa, a Pilot who sees potential in Jack, takes him under his wing.

Fate brings both BT and Jack together when an investigation of a research facility on IMC controlled Typhon goes wrong. Lastimosa is killed, and BT and Jack are forced to link up in order to survive and finish the mission.

Titanfall 2 is out October 28 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game has officially gone gold.
