Sega today announced that the eagerly anticipated Shenmue I & II collection will launch on August 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The remaster of Yu Suzuki’s two cult classics are also available to pre-order via the PlayStation Network, Xbox Games Store and Steam, with a ten percent discount available across all platforms ahead of its official release.

Shenmue I & II will also receive a physical release for PS4 and Xbox One. According to Sega, the physical version will include a double-sided poster of fan-favorite characters from Shenmue -- no word on which characters it will be -- along with a reversible cover featuring original artwork.

Sega says that Shenmue I & II have received a significant upgrade since their respective releases in 1999 and 2001, with the remaster supporting fully scalable screen resolution, a choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option of original Japanese or English voiceovers.

The Shenmue I & II collection was announced earlier this year, with Sega confirming that the remaster would launch in 2018.

Shenmue’s creator, Yu Suzuki, is working on the long-awaited third installment in the beloved series, following on from its initial reveal at E3 in 2015. Sega will not publish Shenmue III, however, with developers Neilo and Ys Net teaming up with Deep Silver on the project.

“Since their original releases, Shenmue I & II have established a passionate following and are revered as one of gaming’s greatest series of all time,” Sega said. “These revolutionary masterpieces deliver a gripping story of retribution, as Ryo Hazuki sets out to avenge his father’s death and attempts to unravel the secrets behind a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror.”
