A sequel to the beloved SteamWorld Dig was announced today as a part of the Nintendo's Nindies showcase, which showcased all of the indie game that will be coming to the Switch in 2017.

Alongside the announcement came a trailer to show off some of the new gameplay and the style of the game. It's got a cool new art style and a female protagonist, Dorothy, whom players of the first game will recognize. The sequel will feature the same Metroid-vania style of SteamWorld Dig, although this time there will be multiple areas with the ability to progress in a nonlinear fashion.

While SteamWorld Dig 2 has only been announced for the Switch so far, it's likely that it will come to other systems much like its predecessor did.
