Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studios have released a new trailer for Styx: Master of Shadows and it's all about dying.

The true focus of the trailer, however, is to showcase the intelligent AI system that makes the game challenging. The trailer runs through a litany of ways Styx can die, from traps, being pummeled by huge orcs, to failing to hide in a barrel ultimately resulting in Styx being strangled, hammered, or sliced into pieces. To say the game will be brutal is an understatement.

All is not lost though. Styx comes equipped with six base skill trees and a special tree that will allow him to subvert, assassinate and sneak past the enemies as he traverses the Tower of Akenash. Styx will also be able to make use of Amber Magic allowing him to to make clones or go invisible. There are caveats to these abilities though to make the game fair and not lose it's challenging nature, because if you could just go invisible through the whole level what would be the point?

Styx's special skills are taxing on his magic reserves and anything that will allow you to refill them is scantily scattered throughout the whole tower, meaning you'll need to make good use of them and can't use them as a crutch. Further amping up the difficulty is the ability of certain enemies being able to still sense you even when you're invisible. The trailer shows an elf being able to smell the amber on Styx right before he shoves his spear through him and bugs immediately sensing him when he gets in range.

If all of this still sounds too easy for you and you're able to get through Akenash easily they've built in a "Goblin Mode" difficulty for you and purist alike taking away Styx's ability to fight once noticed making stealth an absolute must.

Styx: Master of Shadows will be available this October on PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $29.99.
