Naughty Dog today revealed and dropped a performance patch for The Last of Us Part II when playing on a PS5.

The Last of Us Part II, like its predecessor, launched at an awkward time. Despite being widely praised games, both titles launched at the very end of their console's lifecycle. While The Last of Us would eventually receive a PS4 remaster a year after its PS3 release, players are still waiting to hear what Naughty Dog has planned for The Last of Us Part II on PS5. We'll have to wait a bit longer, but Naughty Dog has made the wait a little bit easier.

Owners of the game can download a new patch for The Last of Us Part II that enhances the performance of the game when installed on your PS5. Players can now set the framerate to 30fps or 60fps while maintaining the rest of the backwards compatibility enhancements, including enhanced resolutions and faster load times.

To reiterate, this is not a native PS5 version of The Last of Us Part II. Rather, this is a patch for the PS4 version that adds performance enhancements to the game when installed on a PS5. As to whether or not a native PS5 version is in the works, Naughty Dog wouldn't say. All we have from them is that this is, 'just the first step of working on the PS5.' They promised to share more news when they have it.

The Last of Us Part II is available now on PS4. It's playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
