The spiritual successor to the acclaimed isometric RPG Planescape: Torment, the upcoming Torment: Tides of Numenera is shaping up to support different play-styles via classes specifically tailored for certain types of builds. What is interesting is the presence of a jack-of-all-trades class named, fittingly, the Jack. Though it's rarely actually the case, it's assumed that every primary player class of an RPG experiences some sort of balance in their relationship with the party-oriented combat found in the same game. So far, developer inXile have releases videos for the aforementioned Jack, the fighting-oriented Glaive, and the intellectually mage-esque Nano. They may not be necessarily archetypal character classes, but nuances can only go so far in making familiar ground feel fresh. For now, the class descriptions do promote optimism concerning the potential diversity and depth people may come to expect from a Torment follow-up.

See the trailers for the Jack, the Glaive, and the Nano, below, respectively. Torment: Tides of Numenera is due out next year for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
